What is a DFI motor?
In a traditional petrol injection engine, fuel is injected into the intake manifold where it mixes with air. DFI, as the name suggest, injects the petrol straight into the combustion chamber, leaving pure air to be fed through the intake manifold.
What is the difference between DFI and EFI?
The systems are essentially identical but instead of pumping gas into the air before it goes into the engine as EFI does, DFI systems pump a very precise amount of fuel directly into the combustion chamber inside the engine where it then mixes with air just before being set alight by the spark plug.
What is the DFI system?
The Kawasaki DFI is a proven system in terms of simplicity, reliability, ease of maintenance, performance, economy and reduced emissions. The system uses an Engine/Electronic Control Unit (ECU), which monitors engine speed, load, atmospheric pressure, engine and air temperature. This is called an “open-loop” system.
What is a direct injection outboard?
TLDI® (Two stroke Low pressure Direct Injection) is a powerful direct fuel injection system that reduces emissions over conventional carbureted 2-stroke motors while also greatly increasing fuel and oil economy.
How do you tell if a boat motor is a 2 or 4 stroke?
Here are some easy ways to tell if your engine is two-cycle or four-cycle:
- Look at the fuel cap.
- Look for stickers labeling the equipment (e.g., “Four Cycle” or “No Fuel Mixing”).
- Look for an engine oil fill cap.
- The Operator’s Manual will have engine fuel and oil information in it.
Do 2 stroke outboards have injectors?
Marine fuel injectors live a much tougher life than their automobile counterparts. Inboard, sterndrive, and four- and two-stroke outboard motors are all subject to fuel and injector problems.
What does EFI mean for an outboard motor?
Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) With EFI engines, the fuel mixture is injected into each cylinder’s incoming air before it reaches the intake valve, explains Online Outboards.
What year did Mercury outboards go to fuel injection?
In 1957, Mercury’s jet prop, through the propeller hub underwater exhaust, was introduced to the industry. To reduce emissions and make two-stroke outboards more efficient, Mercury was the first to introduce Direct Fuel Injection in 1996.
What does DFI mean on a Kawasaki?
Digital Fuel Injection Over the past decade, the FD Series of engines by Kawasaki has earned a reputation as a serious, professional-grade powerplant. This highly fuel-efficient DFI engine generates a substantial torque.
What is DFI fuel injection?
Ducted fuel injection (DFI) is a technique to attenuate soot formation in compression ignition engines relative to conventional diesel combustion (CDC). The concept is to inject fuel through a small tube inside the combustion chamber to reduce equivalence ratios in the autoignition zone relative to CDC.
What is digital fuel injection?
Digital fuel injection refers to a fuel injection system that uses a digital signal from an onboard electronic control unit (ECU) to admit fuel into a carburetor style intake. While similar to that of throttle body injection, the system uses no sensors to help regulate the fuel flow.
What is Accel DFI?
The ACCEL/DFI 7.0+ is an advanced ECM that incorporates many features found in OE fuel-injection systems. Making It WorkThe Plug-and-Play system uses the same ACCEL/DFI Generation 7.0+ ECM found in the company’s universal fuel-injection controller kits.
Is a Mercury OptiMax a 2-stroke or a 4 stroke?
Some call it a two-stroke. Some call it direct injection. Others simply call it the best-performing outboard on the water.
Are ETEC engines fuel injected?
It’s been 10 years since E-TEC technology reinvented 2-stroke snowmobiles, and still no other snowmobile OEM has developed the technology for true direct fuel injection, or duplicate the high-end performance of Rotax E-TEC engines with the same eco-friendly efficiencies.
Is Mercury OptiMax fuel injected?
Proven Technology – More than a decade of reliable Mercury® OptiMax® performance is testimony to a great design. Low-pressure Direct Fuel Injection (DFI) delivery, corrosion-resistant alloys and finishes, and rugged components keep Mercury OptiMax outboards on the water, season upon season.
